He is Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy, Scotland and holds Honorary academic appointments at the Universities of Edinburgh, St Andrews, and Dundee. He is President: European Board & College of Obstetrics & Gynaecology (EBCOG) 2014-2017; Chair of the EBCOG Working Party on Standards of Care (2010-), International Consultant UNFPA for EECA Region , and Senior Clinical advisor NIHR National Audit of Urinary Incontinence in the UK (2016-2019) . In the past he has served as Vice President Standards (2007-2010) of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists (RCOG), United Kingdom where he led on the RCOG Initiative of “ Developing Standards Of Care in Maternity , Neonatal and Gynaecology” in 2008. He was also National Lead for a five year long “National Audit of Heavy Menstrual Bleeding” in England and Wales (2010-2015). He is Life Trustee of Lindsay Stewart R&D Research Foundation at the RCOG. His research interests are in the area of the induction of labour and outcome-related multi centre obstetrics/Gynaecology audits, Obesity and reproductive outcomes; and developing standards of care by interrogation of National data sets. He has edited seven books including a book entitled, “Obesity- A ticking bomb for reproductive health-by Elsevier”. He has published more than 180 peer reviewed papers and chapters. He has also delivered more than 175 Lectures by invitation both nationally and internationally. He serves on the Editorial Boards of several medical journals.
