Dr Ramin Badii obtained his BSc from Cardiff University, UK (1985) and Ph.D from the biotechnology center of Cranfield University, UK (1990). He was a Wellcome Trust post-doctoral Research Fellow at University of Leicester, UK, prior to joining Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) in 2001. Dr Badii is currently a consultant clinical scientist (hcpc-UK) and head of the Molecular Genetics Laboratory, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC). The Molecular Genetics Laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists and offers comprehensive tests in areas of postnatal, prenatal and cancer molecular diagnostics. It is also the molecular genetics service provider for the national premarital and the national neonatal sickle cell anemia screening programs. The laboratory performs approximately 35,000 tests per year. Research activities of the laboratory are focused on genetic disorders of Qatari population with funding from Qatar Foundation (NPRP and UREP) and HMC.
