Paolo Gasparini, MD is Chief of the Experimental Genetics Division at Sidra. Prior to this position he was Professor of Medical Genetics at Trieste University and Burlo Garofolo Children’s Hospital in Trieste, Italy. He has contributed to the identification of several inherited disease genes, including many directly involved in causing hearing loss, as well as genes underlying complex and quantitative traits. He is directly involved in large studies on isolated populations (Carlantino, FVG Genetic Park and Silk Road Projects) in which more than 5000 individuals were collected, accurately phenotyped and genotyped. Paolo has participated in several national and international collaborations, some of which were in Qatar. He is also the author of approximately 300 original papers in international journals.
