Mr Hani Fawzi is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist and Lead of gynaecological oncological services and medical education within South Tyneside NHS Foundation Trust. He is also an Honorary Consultant in Public Health, having merged the discipline with obstetrics and gynaecology when he acquired his consultant post. His prime area of expertise is in training Emergency Obstetrics and Neonatal Care (EmONC). He has initiated and conducted EmONC training for participants in several developing countries across Africa and the Middle East and has adapted training manuals to resource poor settings. His clinical interests span: Emergency Obstetrical and Neonatal Care, Essential Obstetric Care, Facilitative Supervision, Training of Trainers, Monitoring and Evaluation (Execution gap), Leadership and Effectiveness, Family Planning (Birth spacing) and Focussed Antenatal Care. Within the RCOG, he has served as Chair of the Global Placement Committee and through that became a member of Global Health Board which he now chairs. He was appointed Fellows International Council Representative for Sub-Saharan Africa in 2015; and was elected Vice President for Global Health in July 2016, taking up the post in September 2016. Mr Fawzi is very interested in global health and international development with an emphasis on advocacy and will take forward the new Global Health Strategy for the RCOG through to 2019.
