Eric Boerwinkle

Dr. Boerwinkle is the Director of the Human Genetics Center and Chair of the Department of Epidemiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. He is also the Associate Director of the Baylor College of Medicine Human Genome Sequencing Center. Dr. Boerwinkle is dedicated to multidisciplinary collaborative research, which engages community partners at all levels. He is an innovator in the area of common disease genomics, statistical analysis of genomic data, and collaborative leadership. He has published more than 780 peer-reviewed articles on these subjects, and sits on multiple editorial boards. He has participated in the identification of the genes for coronary heart disease, stroke, hypertension, and diabetes. He has a track record and reputation for working with the chronic disease epidemiologic and clinical community to achieve shared research goals. More recently, he has made substantial contributions to meeting the methodologic and computing challenges of DNA sequence analysis to identify rare variants contributing to common disease risk.
